The regulatory landscape driving safer housing has changed drastically. We help landlords and property managers navigate Awaab’s Law and PAS 2035 with total confidence.
Tragically, in December 2020, two-year-old Awaab Ishak died after prolonged exposure to toxic mould in his home. His death prompted urgent change, exposing a national crisis where over 70,000 social homes failed basic moisture standards.
In response, Parliament introduced Awaab’s Law, passed on July 20th, 2023. This law enforces strict, legally binding timeframes for landlords to investigate and fix damp and mould hazards.
Starting October 27th, 2025, emergency hazards must be investigated and fixed within 24 hours.
Serious damp and mould issues must be fully addressed and remediated within 14 days.
To tackle these hazards effectively, homes must be upgraded holistically. PAS 2035 is the British standard introduced to ensure safe, effective whole-house retrofits. It systematically addresses energy efficiency, ventilation, moisture, and occupant health.
Before PAS 2035, fragmented projects often created new issues like poor air quality or trapped moisture. The new standard ensures risks are managed proactively through clear, team-based responsibilities:
Manages overall project compliance and protects the client's interests.
Evaluates the property's current condition, energy use, and defects.
Create tailored plans and carry out the physical work to strict specifications.
